Custody > Secure Establishments
Young people who are remanded or
sentenced to custodial detention may be placed in a
range of secure establishments, depending upon their
needs and upon availability. Most custodial
sentences are followed by a period of supervision in
the community, and young people may be recalled to
custody if they re-offend or fail to co-operate with
the Youth Justice Service.
North Yorkshire YJS staff will stay in touch with
young people during their sentence, visiting
regularly to monitor progress and plan for release.
Most young detainees have opportunities for training
and education, and for positive recreational
activities during their sentence. They will also
complete courses designed to tackle their offending
behaviour and help them stay out of trouble.
